Our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man. As God, He is the second person of the Holy Trinity, through whom the world was created. As man, He took flesh from the Virgin Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. He shares fully in our humanity and yet was sinless. The purpose of Jesus Christ’s coming to earth was to reconcile mankind to God. Through His humanity He went voluntarily to His death. He rose from the dead, proving that all who believe and follow Him will do likewise. This is why Jesus Christ is called “Savior,” for He saves us from death. Christ’s “one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church,” the Orthodox Church, unites in Him, the saints that have gone before and those that remain presently.
